New Report on HPC in Latin America and the Caribbean

The Advanced Computing System for Latin America and the Caribbean (SCALAC) recently released a report on the current state of high-performance computing (HPC) in the region. Supported by RedCLARA, SCALAC promotes the development of HPC in the region to contribute to closing the digital divide and achieving technological autonomy and data sovereignty.

Venezuela, Ecuador, Colombia and Peru on the podium at CoAfina: students met challenges in the use of Open Access data

Migration and Xenophobia, microplastics, public domain works and wetlands were the four major social impact themes tackled by the winning teams of CoAfina, the Latin American science and education hackathon, held on 19, 20 and 21 July. They convinced the judging panel by the quality of the solutions proposed using open access data. In this third edition, the podium was made up of students from seven universities in Venezuela, Ecuador, Colombia and Peru.

Más de 150 participantes, cincuenta universidades, 15 países de América Latina, en más de veinte áreas de conocimiento. Estos son los impresionantes números de la tercera edición del Hackaton CoAfina, que se llevará a cabo este fin de semana, del 19 al 21 de julio. La iniciativa, impulsada por el proyecto LA-CoNGA Physics, busca que estudiantes universitarios (pregrado, maestría, doctorado u otro programa) de América Latina desarrollen soluciones de forma colaborativa para resolver problemas relacionados con temas científicos y educativos de impacto social.

The Delegation of the European Union in Guatemala, the National Research and Education Network of Guatemala, the National Secretariat of Science and Technology (Senacyt), the University of the Valley of Guatemala, and the Latin American Cooperation of Advanced Networks (RedCLARA) spearheaded the establishment of the National Copernicus Academy Committee of Guatemala today. This event took place within the framework of the BELLA II project, in close collaboration with the EU Space Support Office and EUreCA.
