30 July: CILAC Colloquium – Monitoring Open Science in Latin America
The CILAC Forum will host a new colloquium addressing the challenges, progress and tools associated with monitoring Open Science in Latin America. Since its launch, more than 35,000 people have participated in the Science in Movement colloquium series.
This new session, part of the Science in Motion cycle, will take place on 30 July at 12:00 (GMT-3) in a virtual, free-to-attend format. It will bring together leading figures from the scientific and policy-making communities to reflect on key achievements and remaining challenges in advancing this strategic agenda across the region.
Latin America and the Caribbean have shown growing commitment to Open Science, promoting public policies, regional infrastructures and collaborative mechanisms such as LA Referencia and the Ibero-American Network of Science and Technology Indicators (RICYT), key partners of RedCLARA. Strengthening the coordination of national and regional efforts, as well as institutional capacities, remains essential to aligning current initiatives with the UNESCO Recommendation on Open Science.
The panel will feature:
-
Lautaro Matas, Executive and Technical Secretary of LA Referencia
-
Patricia Muñoz Palma, Deputy Director of Networks, Strategy and Knowledge at the National Agency for Research and Development (ANID) – Chile
-
Rodolfo Barrere, Vice-President of LA Referencia and Coordinator of RICYT
-
Moderator: Guillermo Anlló, Programme Specialist in Science, Technology and Innovation at UNESCO
The session will address key questions for the development of the regional Open Science ecosystem:
-
Which tools and indicators should be prioritised?
-
How can national agencies, regional networks and multilateral organisations collaborate more effectively?
-
What synergies are needed to strengthen the Regional Dashboard and move towards more coordinated and efficient monitoring?
This multi-stakeholder dialogue seeks to contribute to a more open, inclusive, and sustainability-oriented science
