April 22: GÉANT hosts dialogue on science, data and networks for the planet

On April 22, International Mother Earth Day, GÉANT is organizing an InfoShare—a short virtual session designed to share key information with academic and scientific communities. The event will take place from 14:00 to 15:30 CEST and is open to the public.

The session will focus on the role of National and Regional Research and Education Networks (NRENs and RRENs) in supporting the Earth Observations community. This field has a direct impact on disaster and emergency response, climate change monitoring, and tracking progress toward the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals.

Earth observation is a broad area of work that depends on increasingly large volumes of data to enable new scientific discoveries. The growing flow of this data to universities and national institutions makes it a key area of interest for NRENs. For years, Regional Research and Education Networks have worked to establish policy frameworks that strengthen research and education in this field.

The InfoShare will explore the multinational policy context that supports these initiatives, as well as the complementary approaches that RRENs have adopted to meet the international needs of researchers and provide better services to national institutions.
