After all, what are and what is the role of the academic networks? Undoubtedly, many people asked themselves those questions one day.  To answer and deepen the knowledge of the general public about the NRENs,  the Ecuadorian advanced network RedCEDIA prepared a video  that explains in a simple way the work in that country and thus help in the comprehension on how academic networks operate in all Latin America.

There is growing recognition worldwide that our substantial global investments in research have much greater impact if they are widely shared and openly available to everyone. LA Referencia, OpenAIRE and COAR reaffirm their strong support for a shared vision of a global network of repositories as fundamental infrastructure for providing sustainable and open access to research outputs, ensuring that all researchers and citizens have access to the results of publicly funded research.

The Mconf, multiconferencing web platform funded by the Brazilian National Research and Educational Network (RNP) and incorporated by RedCLARA as VC Espresso in Colaboratorio, has been recommended as a communications solution for African academic networks, during the annual conference UbuntuNet-Connect 2015, held on November 19 and 20 in Mozambique.

The event, to be held through videoconference, will include in its agenda the participation of speakers from Latin America, Europe and Africa. The deadline for the registration is December 14th, 2015.

African research and education network associations the UbuntuNet Alliance, ASREN and WACREN have partnered with their European counterpart GÉANT in a €26.6m EU co-funded project to provide dedicated high-speed internet all over Africa: Africa Connect 2.

Florencio Utreras is part of the program committee of the conference, which will be held between December 7 and 8, in Casablanca.
