The national research and education network of Chile, REUNA, will officially launch two new sections of its high-speed optical network, connecting the cities of Arica and La Serena, and Santiago and Valparaíso, in a virtual event to be held on May 4, at 11am in Santiago (3pm GMT).

EllaLink, the new 6,000km submarine cable connection that will directly link Europe and Latin America, will deliver connectivity for the BELLA Programme by providing the high capacity and low latency necessary for data-intensive research and education use.

Those interested in submitting their papers and participating as speakers in the two events should be aware. The deadline to apply for the calls closes on May 10, at 12 PM GMT.

RNP network scientist Michael Stanton represented Brazil by co-presenting a paper on connectivity in the Atlantic Ocean during the sixth edition of the WACREN Annual Conference - Research and Education Network for West and Central Africa. Organized by the academic network of Benin, in West Africa, the event took place in a virtual format between March 15th and 19th, and brought up the theme "Digital Transformation for Development".

April 12, 2021 - Today, LA Referencia, RedCLARA and the three African regional research and education networks - ASREN, WACREN and UbuntuNet Alliance - signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to formalize their relationship as the two continents seek to ramp up their open science activities. The aim of the collaboration is to advance open science policies, services and infrastructure that reflect the unique needs and conditions of each continent within a framework of international cooperation.

The Latin American Conference on High Performance Computing (CARLA) will be held between October 6 and 8, in Guadalajara (Mexico), and has already opened its calls for papers. Its closing date is July 2.
