Webinar Series on Quantum Technologies in Health

The University Telemedicine Network (RUTE), an initiative of the National Education and Research Network of Brazil (RNP), will hold a series of four webinars on Quantum Technologies in Health between September and December 2025. The sessions are organized in partnership with the Hospital Israelita Albert Einstein (HIAE) and the Federal University of ABC (UFABC), with the support of RedCLARA and RUTE-ALC.

The goal is to gather researchers and professionals who want to talk about how quantum technologies could change healthcare, and to support the formation of a Special Interest Group (SIG) on Quantum Technologies in 2026 as part of RUTE.

The cycle will feature four online meetings, always on the first Friday of each month. On September 5, the topic “Why Should Healthcare Professionals Look at Quantum Computing Now?” will be addressed by HIAE, with the participation of Dr. Felipe Fernandes Fanchini, Felipe Mahlow, and Breno Marques.

On October 3, the session “Quantum Computing in Healthcare: Real Applications and Technological Paths” will be held, also organized by HIAE, with José Bento Montenegro and Dr. Felipe Fernandes Fanchini. On November 7, UFABC will present “Exploring Quantum Technology: What It Is, How It Works, and Its Possibilities in Healthcare,” with Dr. Roberto Serra and Dr. Luciano Cruz. Finally, on December 5, the meeting “Building Quantum Research in Healthcare: Experience, Challenges, and Future Paths” will take place, coordinated by HIAE and UFABC, with Dr. Felipe Fernandes Fanchini and Dr. Jose Adenaldo Santos Bittencourt Junior.

The program will cover fundamental concepts and global trends, as well as concrete applications in areas such as genomics, drug discovery, AI-assisted diagnostics, and the development of high-precision sensors. It will also address technical and human challenges for advancing research, opportunities for interdisciplinary collaboration, and strategies for Brazil’s integration into this emerging technological landscape.

According to Paulo Lopes, Digital Health Specialist at RNP, quantum technologies represent a scientific frontier with the potential to profoundly impact healthcare, but they also carry the risk of technological exclusion if the country does not invest in a coordinated manner. So, the cycle aims to involve managers, researchers, and professionals from Brazil, Latin America, and the Caribbean, as well as partners from European academic networks, in a strategic conversation that brings together science, innovation, workforce development, and control over technology.
