As the first half of 2025 comes to a close, RedCLARA reaffirms its strategic role as a key driver of the digital ecosystem in Latin America and the Caribbean.
This new edition of the DeCLARA digital newsletter brings together the main milestones, partnerships, and initiatives that are accelerating the region’s digital transformation. From institutional missions that strengthen digital cooperation and open new opportunities to new technological developments, a hackathon turning satellite science into environmental action, and a region increasingly connected to the world’s leading observatories.
Among the highlights is RedCLARA’s mission to Costa Rica, aimed at consolidating partnerships to strengthen the country’s integration into the digital ecosystem of Latin America and the Caribbean, as part of the EU co-funded BELLA II project. This mission confirmed that the country is ready for a strategic leap: with strong digital foundations and solid institutional commitment, its integration into BELLA II would enable it to scale up to 20 Gbps of dedicated connectivity for science, education, and technology; strengthen its national research infrastructure; and position itself as a regional leader in innovation. This pivotal action has the potential to revolutionize not just Costa Rica's digital future, but also the entire Central American region.
This edition also features an article on the launch of a regional high-performance computing (HPC) experimentation platform, in partnership with SCALAC, designed to enhance collaboration and support simulation and problem-solving in areas such as health, climate, energy, and more. Additional testbeds will soon be added to promote applied research, innovation, and technology validation. A new BELLA II video highlights these advancements and how the project is driving strategic partnerships and flexible investment models to maximize its impact in the region.
Readers will also find updates on the “TICAL2025: Innovation that Transforms” event, with early bird registration now open and offering over a 30% discount until October 13. The newsletter also reports on RedCLARA’s strategic role in scientific-astronomical connectivity and its recent participation in the South American-African Astronomy Coordination Committee (SA3CC) meeting held in Chile.
Additionally, this edition includes the results of the first Copernicus Academy Hackathon held in Guatemala, outcomes from the recent BELLA II funding call launched in partnership with the SPIDER project, the inauguration of the Rubin Observatory in Chile—set to revolutionize astronomical data in the region—and a section of news briefs showcasing RedCLARA’s involvement in various regional events.
With this new issue, RedCLARA reports on key developments reinforcing its role in the digital integration of Latin America and the Caribbean. Through its high-capacity regional infrastructure, RedCLARA continues to foster collaboration among governments and academic and scientific institutions, promoting innovative solutions for a more inclusive and sustainable development.
