CEDIA takes first place in the ITU’s 16th Regional Cyberdrill for the Americas

This achievement demonstrates the collaborative academic cybersecurity model that the Corporation has built alongside its member institutions.
(By: CEDIA) The SOC-CSIRT team from CEDIA, Ecuador’s National Research and Education Network, took first place in the technical exercises of the 16th Regional Cyberdrill for the Americas ‘From the Heart of the World’, organised by the International Telecommunication Union (ITU) in collaboration with the Ministry of Telecommunications and the Information Society (MINTEL) and the National Polytechnic School (EPN), held from 1 to 5 June 2026 in Quito.
The Cyberdrill is the continent’s most important cybersecurity training exercise: a technical and strategic simulation that recreates cyberattacks and incidents in controlled environments, assessing the detection, response, recovery and operational continuity capabilities of participating teams from across the region.
This recognition, achieved against incident response teams from numerous countries across the Americas, validates the maturity of CEDIA’s cyber-resilience model and the calibre of Ecuadorian talent that protects the country’s higher education and research institutions.
CEDIA, a full member of FIRST (Forum of Incident Response and Security Teams) and certified to the ISO/IEC 27001:2022 standard, reaffirms through this result its commitment to enhancing the digital resilience of Ecuador’s academic sector and to placing these capabilities at the service of the country.
