October 28: "Exploring Copernicus Browser: Radar Image Processing for Flood Monitoring and Detection" Workshop
In order to train participants in the effective use of the Copernicus Browser—a tool that enables access, exploration, and download of high-resolution images generated by the UE earth observation Programme, Copernicus—Copernicus Academy Costa Rica will hold this hands-on workshop on Monday, October 28, at 9:00 a.m. (San José time). The virtual workshop is open only to participants in Costa Rica.
The training will be led by Ariana Sofía Argüello Cordero, Systems Engineer in Space Systems and Astronautics, with a degree in Earth Observation and Geoanalysis and Esteban Montenegro Hernández, PRIAS Laboratory Researcher at the National Center for High Technology (CeNAT). Guided by these experts, participants will explore the main features of the Copernicus Browser and learn how to use the main tools for downloading Sentinel-1 images. The training will focus on applying filters and visualization techniques to optimize data acquisition, followed by analysis of downloaded products using SNAP software.
Participants will gain practical skills in pre-processing these images, with a particular focus on flood studies. This workshop provides an excellent opportunity to gain practical skills in SAR data management and and interpretation in critical environmental contexts.
With the support of RedCLARA, the Copernicus Academy Costa Rica aims to strengthen Costa Rica’s capacity and knowledge management in Earth observation topics through the BELLA II Project. This support from RedCONARE and the European Union aims to facilitate the adoption of Copernicus data in new sectors, helping to bridge the gap between local capacity and data use in the country.
Copernicus is the European Union´s Earth Observation Programme to observe the planet and environment for the maximum benefit of all citizens. It provides information services based on Earth observation and in-situ data.
BELLA II—led by RedCLARA and co-funded by the European Union—is one of the four pillars of the EU-LAC Digital Alliance. The other pillars are Copernicus, the Investment Accelerator and the Policy Dialogues.
