In order to get connected to RedCLARA, the scientific, academic and/or research institutions interested must be part of and be connected to the National Research and Education Network (NREN) in their country of origin. RedCLARA can only be accessed through the connection to such networks. These networks, in turn, must be members of RedCLARA, and to do so they must accredit their existence, be a non-profit institution or corporation and sing CLARA’s statutes. Only one NREN per country can be a RedCLARA member and therefore get connection to the network (it is worth mentioning that since the creation of RedCLARA nearly a dozen national networks have been created across the region).

In Chapter III of CLARA's Statutes the types of Associates are defined:

CHAPTER III
ASSOCIATES

ARTICLE 8.- The entities that can be CLARA Associates are Latin American legal persons which represent a national academic, scientific and/or research network (NREN) in their country and legal persons with an international scope that have an interest in the development of science, technology and innovation and which adhere to the Association’s Statutes. In the case of national academic, scientific and/or research networks, only one entity per country can be a CLARA associate.

The following categories of CLARA Associates will be available.

Full associates, which correspond to national networks, represented by Latin American legal persons which manage a national academic, scientific and/or research networks and adhere to the Association’s Statutes.

Regional associates, which correspond to legal persons with regional or intercontinental scope with an interest in the development of science, technology and innovation, in society in general and in higher education in particular.

Peer associates, which correspond to advanced academic and research networks with a continental scope, with similar characteristics to CLARA in terms of infrastructure and applications.

Entrepreneurial associates, which correspond to multinational companies interested in promoting CLARA’s goals and activities and science, technology, and innovation in general.
